the avengers surpassed the dark knight as the third highest grossing film in the history of cinema - after titanic and avatar.

This mega-blockbuster just keeps breaking box office records worldwide. Disney announced this morning that Marvel’s The Avengers became the third highest grossing film yesterday domestically passing The Dark Knight ($533M), and the third highest grossing film globally passing Harry Potter And The Deathly Hallows Part 2 ($1,328M). But these records are not adjusted for higher ticket prices, inflation, or 3D premiums. The Avengers‘ estimated cumulative performance to date as of Friday is international $793.2M and domestic $538.1M for a worldwide cume of $1,331.3M. It currently stands as the #5 film of all-time internationally (#4 is Pirates Of The Caribbean: On Stranger Tides with $803M). Domestically, it crossed $500M in just 23 days, setting a new speed record overtaking Avatar which took 32 days.

YouTuber “hatinhand” spent over a month uploading and editing clips from 166 movies that were released in 2011 to make the supercut above, which is pretty great — downright mesmerizing, in fact. Not included: Jack and Jill and Abduction, because “hatinhand” is a person of considerable taste who refuses to reward the making of such cinematic abortions with any form of acknowledgement.

Also not included:

- Alvin and the Chipmunks: Chip-Wrecked, Mars Needs Moms, Mr. Popper’s Penguins, Bucky Larson, Atlas Shrugged: Part I, and I Don’t Know How She Does It, for similar reasons.
- Justin Bieber: Never Say Never, Glee: The 3D Concert Movie, and The Human Centipede 2, because I edited this in a public place and people would’ve looked at me funny.
- No Strings Attached, because the video had this weird green line at the bottom and I didn’t care for it.
- Win Win, The Sitter, and The Greatest Movie Ever Sold, because I found nothing visually striking in their trailers.
- Arthur Christmas, Jumping the Broom, Something Borrowed, and Gnomeo and Juliet, because I was struck by an incredible apathy towards all of them.

All told it makes for a highly watchable 7 minutes with a pretty good ending. Enjoy.

even the PROMO terrifies me.
